We have released Paamiut X. You can find it under the Paamiut X download page at Greenland X section. This release has been finished since late november, but it has been delayed for the release because I was busy with the next big release.
Narsarsuaq X is now released, and you can find it under our Download section. You will find two files, but both have the same file content. The INSTALLER file and the "normal" ZIP file.
After 8 months of effort the finish touch is in sight. With over 800 hours with desing of terrain (mesh), and correcting missing or wrong altitudes, creation of more than 4400 lakes and 2300 streams, complete land class redesign, custom made buildings, complete design of the coastline and islands, complete design of the icecap and glaciers, this release has been monumental in it's scope compared to our previous releases. This will be the most comprehensive release. This is not just mine opinion but the opinion of all the FlightSim Greenland team, and our beta testers.
While everyone would love to spend another couple of months polishing and tweaking the release to make it just right, there comes a point where you have to make a choise to release the scenery. And we are almost there! We are currently making the last buildings, and making the last lakes and streams.
This shows the custom made buildings in Narsarsuaq.
This shows the old harbor area, with some custom made buildings.
This shows Narsaq with some custom made buildings.
S/S Montrose is also to be found, another custom made object.
Little history why we use so much time to make FREE sceneries to you all !
Probably like most boys I looked at Greenlandair fly around in all weathers. Can particularly remember when we flew to Ittoqqortoormiit. First we flew with a DC-6 from Kangerlussuaq to Mestersvig. What I particularly remember on that trip was the flight with Bell 204 from Mestersvig to Ittoqqortoormiit. Flying low through a landscape that I still remember back on. High mountains and a landscape that was almost frightening.
Have flown in most of our wonderful country. But I usually remember is that when you flew between high mountains. Beautiful scenery, which you can just continue to look at.
1993 was as the year when Microsoft released Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 5 for the PC. Immediately you were out and flyyourself. It was fun, but something was missing. There was missing Greenland! Then came MSFS 2002 in 2001. It had some landing in Greenland. But the landscape was not like it you could see out the window. In 2003 appeared MSFS 2004. It was a good release. For we can begin to make landscape, so it was more realistic.
The first website about the Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) and Greenland was started in 2003. It was www.kalak-flightsim.com
It grew out of that was missing: one place where people could find landscapes, aircraft and others related to MSFS and Greenland. So I decided to create Kalak-FlightSim, and try to collect as many files as possible. So could people who are interested in MSFS and Greenland have one place they could find files and news. For one thing was certain, I want to fly with "our" own Greenlandair colors! But it was not easy to find out there on the web at the time.
But when you are interested in MSFS and flies around in Greenland, it was not always fun. This is because the landscapes that Microsoft had made for MSFS were not recognizable, and some were unusable. Therefore, I sat down to create landscapes. And the first "Nuuk Scenery" was released in 2004. Since followed Sisimiut 2005.
In October 2006 I decided to create 3D landscape for MSFS. This is because MSFS X had not so good landscape of Greenland. This time FlightSim.gl was created and Kalak-FlightSim was replaced by the new site. Because you often want to experience that feeling again, flew between the high mountains, you would like to fly in more realistic surroundings. 2008 I published whole Greenland in the 100 meter contour lines. This gave a better landscape..After this I made airports that MSFS X didn't have, or were not as accurate. 2010 I started again to create even better scenery. This time with 25 meter contour lines. The first release was the Nuuk area around 17.440km2. Kulusuk area around 22.962km2 and Nerlerit Inaat area around 33.600km2 is now released. Currently working with Narsarsuaq area which will cover around 31.000km2 which I hope to publish in summer 2010. This will be the most accurate release from FlightSim Greenland Team ever ! A truely teamwork on this project is going on.
I have currently four partners in Greenland and in Denmark, Lars Larsen, Jesper Isbosethsen, Finn Olesen and Mads Petersen. We all have the same goal, namely to promote Greenland and planes that have relations with the country on our virtual world. But we also get help from Air Greenland's pilots, which gives us information on aircraft, helicopters and give us pictures of them. Some employees at airports, we must not forget their contributions.
Welcome to our new version of FlightSim Greenland website.
We had to move away from the social/community, because it took too much time to delete spams etc. We want to use our time to develop FS and FSX related stuff for our users, and not spam hunting.
Many of our users is spam accounts, which never have been used to login to the site. So I decided to delete the User accounts. So you have have to register again.
Nerlerit Inaat X scenery package is the most real mesh for Flight Simulator X for Nerlerit Inaat area. This area covers more than 13,000 Sq. miles.
The mesh data is made from ASTER GDEM data. While ASTER GDEM data is not nearly refined as STRM source data, the data is the best data for Greenland. The raw ASTER GDEM data is not without its problems, but I have remaked large areas to make it usefull. But it's not only the mesh I have reworked. The coastline and islands are reworked for this release. Like the lakes and rivers are.
Nerlerit Inaat (BGCO) is moved to the right position, added custom made buildings. Ittoqqortoormiit Helistop (BGSC) is also added to the scenery with some standard FSX buildings. Mestersvig Airport (BGMV) is added and some standard FSX buildings.
This release have redefined land class for the area. This gives you a more realistic land class.
KulusukX scenery package is the most real mesh for Fligh Simulator X for Kulusuk area. This area covers more than 8,822 Sq.
Tasiilaq Helistop (BGAM) and the terminal is also added to the scenery. Kuummiut Helistop (BGKM), Sermiligaaq Helistop (BGSG) and Timmiatmiut Helistop (BGTN) is added with helistops, adn some standard FSX buildings.
This release have redefined land class for the area. This gives you a more realistic land class.
- Special thank to Claus Vendelboe Holmberg, who gave us the Kulusuk Terminal.
Kapisillit is a settlement in the Nuuk area. In 2010 it had 86 inhabitants. Kapisillit is located 47 miles (75 km) northeast of Nuuk.
The scenery uses only FSX standard buildings, but are placed with help by Google Earth. These are not auto generic ! We have added a helistop, and the ID is BGVA. This ICAO ID is virtual, because the settlement don't have a real helistop.
This scenery need the NuukX scenery, and are best with the satellite ground imagery.
You can download Kapisillit scenery in our NuukX download folder.
FlightSim Greenland would like to welcome Mads Petersen as FlightSim Greenland Team Member.
Mads have been helping the team for several months now, with repaints, comments etc. And I had the pleasure to have his assistance with the NuukX project.
Our fellow simmers can now look forward for his repaint releases.
